Jean Philippe GAY, SOS Aircraft On Tarmac 's chairman, offers an analysis of the AI171 crash based on aircraft configuration management. Indeed, in 2006 for the A380 program, industrial difficulties due to poor configuration management led to the installation of stretched electrical harnesses, which led to the risk of cable fatigue and a significant reduction in the aircraft's lifespan.
A technical analysis concluded that the first 30 A380s had this defect and should be dismantled. Mr. JP Gay then developed algorithms to dismantle these aircraft while ensuring maximum recycling of subassemblies. SOS Aircraft On Tarmac was therefore created in response to this issue.
